We look after your home while you're away

Areas

Home watch for a closed house in São Pedro de Moel, pines in front of the Atlantic.

São Pedro de Moel is in the municipality of Marinha Grande. The pines come almost to the sand and, in winter, many holiday homes stay closed facing the wind and the salt. This is not Pataias, which is in Alcobaça and set further back from the waves, and it is not Nazaré, with the cliff and the Sítio.

The visit is the house. We do not walk the pine woods or the boardwalk. The Penedo da Saudade lighthouse in the photograph shows the coast. It is not a client’s house.

Salt on the shutters when the house stays closed all winter

The wind puts salt on locks, shutters and windows facing the sea. Behind the house, the pines keep it in shade, and the air is slow to dry when the rooms stay shut. A bathroom with the window closed, or a wardrobe against an outside wall, is where damp shows first.

A storm here does not get the next-morning slot, which is published for Alcobaça. Outside Alcobaça the check after a storm is within 48 hours at most, included on Premium and an extra on Weekly and Essential.

What a visit records on this winter coast

Shutters, frames, locks, new stains, a closed-up smell, taps and the mail. The house is aired and closed again. Photos are dated so one visit can be compared with the next. This is not a structural survey and it does not guarantee that a hidden defect will be found.

What a visit covers

A visual check, not a structural survey and not a guarantee that hidden defects will be found. A diagnostic visit runs about 45–75 minutes, with 8–15 photos.

  • Doors, locks, windows and shutters
  • Signs of forced entry
  • Visible leaks, damp, mould and pests
  • Taps, cisterns and a visual check of the water heater
  • Airing, and mail photographed unopened unless you say otherwise
  • Terrace, gate and, when you ask on Weekly or Premium, the meters

Closed in winter, lived in during summer

While you are away, Essential visits twice a month and Weekly about four times. The seasonal plan is for someone who pays only for the months they are away, at least six a year. Preparing the house the weekend before arrival is on Premium; on Essential and Weekly it is an extra visit. Cleaning is not included.

  • Diagnostic€65 · one visit
  • Essential€125 · 2 visits a month · per month
  • Weekly€235 · About 4 visits a month · per month
  • Premium€365 · About 4 visits a month, with priority · per month

The diagnostic visit (€65) is credited on the first month if a plan starts within 14 days.

Outside Alcobaça, the check after a storm is within 48 hours at most. Included · Weekly €30 · Essential €55. It is not a 24-hour emergency service.

Questions about São Pedro de Moel

Which municipality is it in?

São Pedro de Moel is in Marinha Grande. It is one of the places we schedule on a regular basis.

Does the visit include the pine woods, or only the house?

Only the house: doors, windows, shutters, what can be seen inside, the terrace and the gate. We do not patrol the pines.

How is this different from Nazaré?

They are different stretches of coast. Here the pines sit just behind the beach and the town is smaller. Salt and winter wind exist in both. There is no ranking of which is worse: the visit describes what it saw in this house.
